Tesamorelin is a synthetic analog of growth hormone–releasing hormone. Like sermorelin, it signals the pituitary to release growth hormone, which raises IGF-1. It is sold as Egrifta and is FDA-approved for one use: reducing excess visceral abdominal fat in adults with HIV-associated lipodystrophy, but used off label for reduction of visceral fat ie fat loss.

It is contraindicated in pregnancy, active cancer, and disruption of the hypothalamic-pituitary axis. Common side effects include joint pain, injection-site reactions, swelling, and muscle aches.
